Earlier I wrote a blog about everything you need to know about sign language. And the way the Internet works is that after doing your research, you are bombarded with everything related to it. Fortunately, sometimes there is something beautiful in between, and I didn’t want to keep this one from you. Warning: have a box of tissues ready.
While I was once again trying to figure out Youtube, I was advised this video. Well I’m a real softy and a sucker for weddings, and so with the recent research into sign language this was no surprise, so I had to see this.
Sign Language and Music
You may not have thought about it, at least I didn’t, but in addition to spoken lyrics, it is of course also possible to depict sung lyrics through sign language. And that is exactly what happens in this video: gesturing the words of the lyrics to sing, and how! The video, of course, has been viewed over 4 million times for a reason….

The Youtube video is about American Ally, who had a serious accident a few years before her wedding, ended up in the hospital and could not speak. Therefore, to communicate, she had to rely on sign language and a white board. She has since recovered and it is time for her wedding.
Well a father giving away his daughter is always a thing (yes we men have feelings too), but this one falls into the superlative. Indeed, now, years after the accident, during her wedding, her father “sings” the beautiful I Loved Her First by Heartland in, yes, sign language. It makes for a very special, and emotional, moment. I do know where the award for father of the year goes, gosh how clever and impressive!
