Wonderful! But if you wear a hearing aid, it also means a little more preparation than just packing your toothbrush. Because without a properly functioning hearing aid, you are not only literally less accessible, your vacation enjoyment can also suffer greatly.   <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In this blog, we list the best things to bring, what to watch out for during your trip and how to avoid standing in an unfamiliar country with a deaf ear.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Before you leave: check<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Before you close your suitcase, it\u2019s smart to do a quick check of your hearing aid. Is everything working properly? Are the filters clean? Is there enough battery power in it? Just a little maintenance or checkup with your hearing care professional before you leave can prevent a lot of hassles on the road.    <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Going flying, into the mountains or to a tropical island? Then changing temperatures, humidity and altitude differences can affect your device. So make sure you are prepared for different conditions.  <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Checklist: what to bring?<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Exactly what you need depends on the type of hearing aid you wear. But in general, take too much rather than too little. Some items are hard to get at your destination \u2013 or only with delays or at high cost.  <\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. <strong>Sufficient batteries or a charger<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If your device is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.horendgoed.nl\/batterijen-en-opladers\/batterijen\/hoortoestelbatterijen\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">battery-powered<\/a>: bring an ample supply, especially if you are traveling to a remote or warm country. Consider at least one set per day, plus extras for emergencies. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Do you have a rechargeable device? Then don\u2019t forget your <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.horendgoed.nl\/batterijen-en-opladers\/hoortoestel-opladers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">charger<\/a> and possibly a spare cable<\/strong>. And check in advance if you need a world plug for your destination.  <\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. <strong>Drying box or drying capsules<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Heat, sweat and moisture are no friends to your hearing aid. A <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.horendgoed.nl\/schoonmaakmiddelen\/droogsystemen\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">drying box<\/a><\/strong> (preferably electric or with UV light) helps keep your instruments dry and fresh. Prefer to go lightweight on the road? Then <strong>drying capsules<\/strong> are a great alternative.   <\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. <strong>Cleaning materials<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A clean device works better and lasts longer. If you find yourself in an emergency situation or need to explain to someone how your device works, it\u2019s handy. <\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">7. <strong>Hearing protection (optional)<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Will you be flying or traveling to a noisy destination? Then consider bringing <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.horendgoed.nl\/gehoorbescherming\/oordoppen\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">earplugs<\/a> against pressure or noise<\/strong>. This will protect your ears as well as your device from extreme situations.  <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">On the plane: paying attention for a moment<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can just keep your hearing aid on during the flight. It doesn\u2019t interfere with electronic systems and you don\u2019t have to turn it off on takeoff or landing. Still, there are a few things to watch out for:  <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Pressure differences may cause you to temporarily hear less or experience a \u201cfull\u201d feeling in your ears. <strong>Swallowing, yawning or chewing gum<\/strong> helps with this.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If necessary, turn down the volume on your device slightly if you experience more ambient noise during takeoff.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Flying for a long time? Make sure your batteries or charger are in your carry-on luggage \u2013 not in the hold! <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">At your destination: dry, safe and clean<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sun, sea and beach? Wonderful. But for your hearing aid, these are somewhat less than ideal conditions. Here\u2019s how to keep everything working properly:   <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Wear a hat or cap<\/strong> against excessive sun and sweat.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Get your device out when swimming<\/strong> or snorkeling \u2013 even if the water hits your ears \u201conly briefly.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Use a drying box overnight<\/strong> to remove moisture.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Do not leave your device in full sunlight<\/strong>, such as on a beach towel or dashboard.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Activities and outings<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you are actively out and about \u2013 hiking, biking, a boat ride \u2013 make sure your device is secure. Sturdy goggles or a hearing aid clip can help prevent loss. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Going to a concert, busy market or other noisy place? Then you can temporarily turn off your device or switch to a special program for lots of background noise, if your device supports it. <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What if something goes wrong anyway?<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An accident is in a small corner. Does your hearing aid fall in the water, get lost or suddenly stop working? Then this will help:  <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Allow the unit to dry thoroughly<\/strong> (do not blow dry or place on the heater).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Use a drying box or silica bags<\/strong> to pull out moisture.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Contact your hearing care professional<\/strong> \u2013 often they can advise you remotely.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Check if your travel insurance covers hearing aids<\/strong>, especially in case of loss or theft.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If necessary, consider temporarily taking a spare or loaner device with you when you travel.
