Your hearing aids stop working. Panic! But not to worry. In many cases, the problem is easy to solve. In this blog we will help you step by step.     <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Whether you\u2019re experiencing interference for the first time or have dealt with it before, these tips will get you back on track to hearing well in no time.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. Check that the batteries (or battery) are still good<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It may sound obvious, but dead batteries are one of the most common causes of \u201cfailing\u201d hearing aids.<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Change the battery.<\/strong>  Do you have a battery-operated hearing aid? Replace them with a new set and check if the light comes back on or the device makes a starting sound. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Do you use rechargeable hearing aids?<\/strong>  Check that they did charge properly. It is possible that a device was not properly seated in the charging station. Try charging again or connect the charger directly to another power source.  <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Note that<\/strong> even new batteries can be defective or have been stored incorrectly. Check the expiration date and try another brand if necessary. <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. Is the microphone hole or tubing clogged?<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hearing aids are sensitive to dust, earwax and moisture. A clogged microphone hole or tubing can prevent sound from coming in or being transmitted properly. <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Check the microphone hole and tubing<\/strong> for dirt or blockage. You can often gently clean this with a small brush or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.horendgoed.nl\/en\/webshop\/accessories\/hearing-aid-cleaners\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">cleaning kit<\/a>. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Look at the dome (rubber in your ear).<\/strong> If there is a lot of earwax in this, it may be blocking the sound. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.horendgoed.nl\/en\/webshop\/accessories\/domes-en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Replace it if necessary<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Always use the proper cleaning material. Many manufacturers offer special cleaning kits tailored to your type of hearing aid. <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. Is the filter clogged?<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Many in-the-ear hearing aids have a <strong>filter<\/strong> that blocks earwax. This filter is located just behind the rubber or cap that sits in your ear canal. If the filter is clogged, you often can\u2019t hear anything at all.  <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.horendgoed.nl\/en\/webshop\/accessories\/filters-en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Replace the filter<\/a> if you suspect it is clogged.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Each device has its own filter system, so use only the type that goes with your device.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tip: keep a few spare filters in the house so you don\u2019t run out.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4. Check the setting or volume control<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sometimes the hearing aid is on, but the volume is accidentally on the lowest setting, or the program has been changed to a silent mode (such as \u201crestaurant mode\u201d or \u201cmusic\u201d).<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Are you using app?<\/strong>  Open the app associated with your hearing aids and check the program and volume setting.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Do you use a push button on the device itself?<\/strong>  Press and hold for a few seconds to switch between programs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A wrong position happens more often than you think, especially if you accidentally pressed a button.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">5. Has moisture gotten into the hearing aid?<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Moisture is a silent killer for hearing aids. Rain, sweat or condensation can cause your hearing aids to suddenly stop functioning. <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Let your devices dry.<\/strong> Turn them off, remove the battery (or put them off the charger) and place them in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.horendgoed.nl\/en\/webshop\/accessories\/drying-systems\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">drying box or drying box<\/a>. Do you have no sound on both devices at the same time?<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If so, something else may be going on:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Check the <strong>charger or battery supply.<\/strong> Perhaps there has been no power, the charger is defective or you accidentally use dead batteries.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Check the <strong>settings in your smartphone app.<\/strong> Maybe the sound is muted or there is a connection problem.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Note that with bluetooth paired devices, you may also be temporarily disconnected from your phone.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">7. Reset your hearing aids<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If nothing helps, a <strong>reset<\/strong> may provide relief. How that works depends on the brand and type of hearing aid. Usually:  <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Turn off both devices (for rechargeable devices: remove them from the charger, leave them turned off).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Wait 30 seconds.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Turn them back on or place them back in the charger.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some devices reset themselves when opening and closing the battery compartment.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">8. Time to call your audiologist?<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Have you tried everything, but it\u2019s still not working? Then it\u2019s time for professional help. An audiologist can:  <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Clean the appliances thoroughly with special equipment.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Check the interior for defects.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Perform any updates or adjust settings.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Helping you request repairs (as needed).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Don\u2019t wait too long. Especially if you depend on your hearing aids for your daily communication and social contacts. <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Additional tips for the future<\/h2>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Always carry a spare battery with you<\/strong>, especially when you are out and about. Keep them charged or with new batteries so that if they malfunction or are lost, you won\u2019t suddenly be without them. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Consider an emergency <a href=\"https:\/\/www.horendgoed.nl\/en\/webshop\/aids-for-the-hearing-impaired\/hearing-amplifiers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">hearing amplifier<\/a>.<\/strong> These are often ready for immediate use and can provide a temporary solution if your hearing aids really do fail and you still have to wait for repair or replacement.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That way, you\u2019ll be well prepared for both small and larger hearing emergencies \u2013 and avoid suddenly finding yourself in silence.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">In conclusion<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A suddenly silent hearing aid is annoying, but need not be immediate cause for panic. In many cases, the problem is quickly and easily solved with a cleaning, new battery or small reset moment. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As with other technology, if you know where to look, you are often on your way in no time.
