From the latest <strong>Sound Delivery System 6.0<\/strong> to the differences between <strong>S, M, P and MAV<\/strong> receivers. So you\u2019ll know exactly what to look out for.     <\/p>\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What does a speaker in a hearing aid actually do?<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a receiver-in-ear (RIE) hearing aid, the speaker is not in the device itself, but in the ear canal. The device behind the ear processes the sound, and the speaker in the ear canal ensures that the amplified sound is actually heard. So this speaker is essential for both sound quality and comfort.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Phonak offers several types of speakers for this purpose, tailored to hearing loss, fit and acoustic requirements. The speaker sits at the end of a thin wire that snaps into the hearing aid \u2013 and that wire looks like the cord running past your ear. <\/p>\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">New: Sound Delivery System 6.0 \u2013 Infinio<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Phonak\u2019s latest generation of speakers is called <strong>Sound Delivery System 6.0<\/strong>. These Infinio speakers are a further development on previous generations, and are available in strengths: <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>S<\/strong> (Standard)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>M<\/strong> (Medium)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>P<\/strong> (Power)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>MAV<\/strong> (ActiveVent Speaker)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>S<\/strong> is intended for mild hearing loss and offers a fine, compact fit with less power. <strong>M<\/strong> is the most commonly used type, suitable for moderate hearing loss. <strong>P<\/strong> is designed for those who need more power, for more severe hearing loss.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">MAV \u2013 what is that?<\/h3>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"421\" src=\"https:\/\/www.horendgoed.nl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/phonak_activevent_receiver_sound_stream_closed_vent-600x421-1.webp\" alt=\"phonak activevent receiver sound stream closed vent 600x421\" class=\"wp-image-214045\" style=\"width:365px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.horendgoed.nl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/phonak_activevent_receiver_sound_stream_closed_vent-600x421-1.webp 600w, https:\/\/www.horendgoed.nl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/phonak_activevent_receiver_sound_stream_closed_vent-600x421-1-300x211.webp 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <strong>MAV speaker<\/strong> is a so-called <strong>ActiveVent speaker<\/strong>. It contains an advanced mechanism that automatically adjusts the vent depending on the listening situation. For example: in music or noise, the vent automatically closes for richer sound; in quiet environments, it opens for more comfort and naturalness. Ideal for those who switch between situations a lot or for those who want to combine both amplification and open wearing comfort.   <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Note that the ActiveVent is only suitable for specific devices and requires close tuning in the software.<\/p>\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Important: software modification is necessary<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A common misconception is that you can switch speakers yourself \u2013 for example, from an <strong>M<\/strong> to a <strong>P<\/strong> because you feel something is missing in the sound. But unfortunately, that\u2019s not how it works. Each speaker requires a specific adjustment in the hearing aid software.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Without this adjustment (which can only be done by a hearing care professional), the device will not function properly. You may get a distorted sound image, feedback problems or even damage to the device.   <strong>So never exchange speakers on your own.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Right or left, and what length?<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Phonak speakers are available for the <strong>left or right ear<\/strong> and come in length sizes:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>00<\/strong> \u2013 extra short (quite rare)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>0<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>1<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>2<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>3<\/strong> \u2013 extra long<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Shorter seems nicer \u2013 the cord will be tighter along the ear \u2013 but beware: a speaker that is too short may pull on the ear or ear canal. This can lead to pain, irritation or misalignment in the ear. A proper length prevents these problems. The length is always subtly marked on the speaker (e.g. R2 = right ear, length 2).   <\/p>\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Sound Delivery System 5.0<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The previous system \u2013 <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.horendgoed.nl\/de\/shop\/zubehor\/sprecher\/phonak-empfaenger-5\/\" data-type=\"product\" data-id=\"106740\">Sound Delivery System 5.0<\/a><\/strong> \u2013 is still in full use and compatible with instruments from the <strong>Phonak Marvel<\/strong>, <strong>Paradise<\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.horendgoed.nl\/en\/products\/new-phonak-audeo-life-lumity\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"11403\">Lumity<\/a><\/strong> lines. Again, you have a choice of <strong>S, M, P<\/strong> and <strong>MAV<\/strong>. Operation is largely similar to System 6.0, although the speakers are designed slightly differently and compatibility is limited to earlier devices.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Do you use a hearing aid from one of these series? Then chances are your speaker type is from SDS 5.0. <\/p>\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Fit speakers \u2013 what are they?<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A separate category within <a href=\"https:\/\/www.horendgoed.nl\/en\/phonak-shop\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"180545\">Phonak<\/a> speakers are the <strong>Fit Speakers<\/strong>, also called <strong>sensor speakers<\/strong>. These contain a sensor that collects information about the wearing environment, such as movement, moisture or body temperature. This data is used by the hearing aid to adjust automatically.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Special domes fit these speakers: the <strong>Vented Dome Clear 5.0<\/strong>, available in sizes <strong>S, M and L<\/strong>. These domes provide a comfortable fit with light ventilation, contributing to both wearing comfort and acoustic performance. <\/p>\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What happened to Sound Delivery System 4.0?<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.horendgoed.nl\/de\/shop\/zubehor\/sprecher\/phonak-power-lautsprecher-4-0-0l\/\" data-type=\"product\" data-id=\"62664\">System 4.0<\/a> is no longer made by Phonak (some lengths and strengths are still in stock). The reason? The filter system<a href=\"https:\/\/www.horendgoed.nl\/de\/shop\/zubehor\/filter\/phonak-cerushield-disk-wax-guard\/\" data-type=\"product\" data-id=\"7787\">(CeruDisc<\/a>) was quite pricey and difficult to replace.
