The ultimate feeling of freedom. But there\u2019s one thing many convertible drivers don\u2019t think about: their ears. Because as nice as such a ride is, the noise in an open car can be quite loud \u2013 and that can affect your hearing. Time to take a closer look at that.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-hoeveel-geluid-maakt-een-cabrio-eigenlijk\">How much noise does a convertible actually make?<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You might think that driving a car is not that bad in terms of noise, especially compared to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.horendgoed.nl\/en\/hearing-problems\/the-danger-of-motorcycling-for-your-hearing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">motorcycle<\/a> or a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.horendgoed.nl\/en\/hearing-problems\/getting-to-your-festival-safely\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">festival<\/a>. But appearances can be deceiving.  With an open-roof convertible, you have to deal with a constant combination of wind noise, tire noise, engine noise and traffic around you.<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>At 80 km\/h, noise levels in a convertible can already be around <strong>85 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.horendgoed.nl\/en\/news\/what-is-a-decibel\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">decibels<\/a> (dB)<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Moving toward 120 km\/h, that easily shoots up to <strong>95 dB or more<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In comparison, prolonged exposure to noise above 80 dB can already lead to hearing damage.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That means that a leisurely drive for a few hours in your convertible can have more impact on your ears than you think.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-waarom-is-dat-gevaarlijk-voor-je-gehoor\">Why is that dangerous to your hearing?<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Our hearing is not made for prolonged exposure to loud, monotonous sounds.
