Bone Conduction Headsets

Bone Conduction. You may have heard of this fancy term, also called bone conduction. It’s the innovative alternative to traditional headphones. But how does it actually work? In this article, we explain.

This is how bone conduction works

This is how bone conduction works

Headphones normally have speakers. These speakers create vibrations, which are transmitted by the air to the eardrum. Through the inner ear and the auditory nerve, they then reach the brain, which is how you hear sound.

In bone conduction, the eardrum is bypassed. The vibrations are transmitted directly through the bone in the cheekbone to the cochlea and similarly pass through the auditory nerve to the brain. The ear does not “know” that the vibrations are not coming from the eardrum.

What are the benefits of bone conduction?

Leg guidance has become increasingly popular in recent years, which is not surprising because it has a number of important advantages:

It is the solution to certain hearing problems

Because the eardrum is bypassed, it is still possible for people who have hearing damage here to hear sound. So they can still enjoy their favorite music!

You continue to hear your surroundings better

A bone conduction headset does not sit in or on the ear, so it remains free and so you can still hear your surroundings via the traditional way. Especially a lot safer in traffic!

Bone conduction headsets are more hygienic

Headphones with bone conduction are waterproof and do not come into contact with the bacteria in the ear like in-ear headphones, for example. Thus, they are more hygienic and perfect for sports!

They are more comfortable than traditional headphones

Opinions may be divided on this, but we often hear that the headsets with bone conduction are more comfortable because people find it annoying to have something in or on their ear. That’s personal, of course, but we understand those people!
