You may have heard of them: a Calmer. These revolutionary earplugs from Flare Audio reduce annoying noise and therefore stress without completely sealing the ear. But when do you use it and how exactly does it work?

When do I use a Calmer?

Hypersensitivities (over-sensitivity) and hypo-sensitivities (under-sensitivity) due to a wide range of stimuli are often things that people find challenging. These can include sensitivity to sounds, smells, touch and tastes. Many people are hypersensitive to certain sounds, and many find bright lights, smells and tastes overwhelming.

Calmer is a small earplug worn in the ear to reduce stress. The Calmer was originally designed to help us all deal with sounds that cause us stress and anxiety. They do this without reducing the volume so you don’t feel disconnected from the world.

This makes Calmer perfect for: sensitive hearing, hyperacusis, misophonia, noise-related stress and other hearing disorders. Calmer calms sound sensitivities and soothes your audio world.

We have also received feedback from customers that a Calmer can help with tinnitus (ringing in the ears). However, the Calmer has not been designed or tested for this purpose. For this reason, we cannot recommend that you use a Calmer to relieve tinnitus.

Do your hearing problems affect your life? If so, contact a family doctor, an ENT doctor or an audiological center.

What does a Calmer do?

A Calmer reduces frequencies from approximately 2 kHz – 8 kHz. As a result, it produces a much more even sound response, smoothing out jarring frequencies, resulting in an improved and more pleasant sound.

Humans can hear between 20 – 20,000 HZ. Our ears are naturally most sensitive between 2,000 Hz and 8,000 Hz. A frequency response chart shows which frequencies are amplified by the ear when sound reaches the eardrums.

The chart shows average frequency response of the human ear and how Calmer corrects for it.

Note that without Calmer, there is a large increase between 2000 – 8000 Hz.

This increase is natural resonance caused by the shape of our ears (Concha).

Distorted frequencies have a dramatic effect on our mental and physical well-being.

  • listen fatigue
  • headache
  • increased stress

These can all be linked to sound (unwanted noise) from our busy daily lives.

Calmer offers a natural way to reduce the constant barrage of today’s environmental noise stressors.

Listen with them and feel calmer in the most natural way.
