TV aids for the hearing impaired

Hearing impaired people face several challenges in everyday life. One of them is watching, or rather listening, to the television. When you are alone, you can easily turn up the TV, but in company, this can be unpleasant for others. It also becomes more difficult to follow the television when conversations are going on, or vice versa. Fortunately, there are various TV aids that, depending on the situation, can offer a solution. In this article we take a look at them.

TV connector with Bluetooth

Many modern hearing aids today are equipped with Bluetooth. This allows you to pair your hearing aid not only with your phone, but also with your television! All you need is a so-called TV connector that is compatible with your hearing aid. You connect the connector to the audio output of the television, which then transmits the sound via Bluetooth to your hearing aid. You continue to hear ambient sound as well, and you can use an app on your phone to determine what the ratio of television to environment should be.

Want to know if your hearing aids have Bluetooth? Then look for this symbol on the packaging or in the user manual.

At Horend Goed we have several TV connectors from different brands. Not quite sure which one is right for you? Please leave us a message via our contact page or call us at 075 20 25 203.

Chin brackets

A chin bar is a device separate from your hearing aids, although it works in much the same way. You connect the base station to the television, you put the earbuds in your ears and the base station sends the sound to the chin bar which, as the word says, hangs under your chin. Therefore, you do not need Bluetooth hearing aids for this, as you take your hearing aids off in this case. When using a chin guard, you also no longer hear ambient noise, such as the doorbell or fire alarm. Therefore, we recommend using it in combination with an alarm and/or warning system.

Speakers and surround systems

The last category are special speakers and surround systems. The sound is then not sent directly to your hearing aid or chin bar, but simply comes out of a speaker and you hear it the same way you usually watch television. In our online shop we have some wonderful systems, which we will briefly explain below:

Hypersound Clear 500

This particular technological tour de force works with speakers that send ultrasonic sound waves in a very targeted way to one specific spot. This way you can hear the amplified sound, but not the other people in the room. This system is ideal when you cannot agree on the sound volume of the television and can be used without hearing aids.

ZVOX AV157 soundbar

The ZVOX AV157 is a soundbar specially designed for the hearing impaired. With a special technology, voices are filtered out of the background noise and amplified, making them easier to understand. It features 12 programs to adjust the balance between speech and background to your individual needs. In addition, it automatically mutes loud commercials.

Faller Oskar

This handy portable speaker sits next to you, providing optimized sound at your listening position without disturbing others. It uses voice optimization for better dialogue and is easy to operate. So you can watch TV again carefree!
